Artist Statement:

Whenever I paint a tree, I feel a sense of calmness as I connect with nature. I also enjoy creating monochromatic imagery. And so, I used black and white, with hints of metallic silver, to create an animated background reminiscent of a portal. Iridescent paint is selectively placed in the leaves and tree bark, creating a color-changing effect depending on how the light hits the piece.

I chose the title, Where Life Begins because black and white proceeded color metaphorically and historically. And because trees symbolize life, the piece symbolically represents a peaceful, new beginning.
