Artist Statement:

I once read a quote stating, "Those who have never made a mistake have never made a discovery." Too often, things are looked at in a black-and-white context. Rarely, however, is it truly the case. I wanted to capture the essence of discovery while experimenting with palette knife texturing techniques for this painting. 

I strategically used color for this piece. I used pouring paints - reds, blues, and purples - to create an eruption-like burst emanating from the mountain - an "eruption of color." Thematically, it represents that although life can seemingly be "black and white," true passion, energy, and emotions come from within.
